Mushroom Events
The activities for this three-day event include interactive seminars, guided hikes, guided foraging in the rainforest, and special autumn menus incorporating local mushrooms from the seasonal harvest. The weekend includes a variety of events that are both entertaining and educational.
Friday, October 19
The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a wine and cheese social. This kickoff reception features mushroom-focused vendors and an elaborate display of freshly harvested mushrooms, followed by engaging presentations by mushroom experts Chris Herrera, former president of the South Sound Mushroom Club, and Dr. Steven Trudell, affiliate professor in the College of Forest Resources and lecturer in the Biology Department at the University of Washington.
Saturday, October 20
Activities include the Introduction to Mushroom Identification seminar, guided hikes into the Quinault Rainforest to identify and collect mushrooms, and an informative seminar by Tristan Woodsmith of Fungi Perfecti. End the evening with a fun game of Fungi Bingo, with all proceeds benefiting the Quinault Museum.
Sunday, October 21
The event concludes with an overview of how to grow mushrooms at home by Loni Ronnenbaum of Fungi Perfecti followed by an Oyster Mushroom Kit Workshop that includes take-home kits for home growing, and buffet lunch in the legendary Roosevelt Dining Room featuring a variety of mushroom-inspired entrees.
